Job Description

Lead the development efforts for a number of generative Artificial Intelligence tools for a young, Japan-based tech company

Roles/Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the entire engineering team in Japan and offshore, to drive product development and AI research.
• Make strategic decisions on technology from a management perspective.
• Oversee the development and management roadmap of products including chatbots, and other AI related products.
• Implement systems to maximize the output of the engineering team.
• Engage in cutting-edge AI research and integrate results into new products.
• Manage the managers who will oversee the teams working on specific products, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.

Required skills

• Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar
• Proven experience in AI development.
• Experience in executive roles or as a senior manager.
• Successfully launched new products or businesses.
• Managed engineering teams of 10+ members.
• Expertise in natural language processing, speech recognition, or related AI fields.
• Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
• Fluent or native Japanese skills.

Preferred skills

• Conversational English skills are very welcome.
• Project and team management experience in Agile development.
• Master’s or PhD in natural language processing/language modeling/speech recognition/speech processing, or experience writing papers/authored works in these areas
• Master of Business Administration (MBA) or similar degree
• Experience presenting peer-reviewed papers or international conferences as the first author
• Patent application experience
• Entrepreneurial experience
• In addition, either of the following is welcome for this role:
• Strong knowledge of AI (mainly natural language processing/speech recognition) and good at external (shareholder/customer relations) presentation and communication (evangelist type CTO)
• Demonstrated leadership skills in AI (mainly natural language processing/speech recognition) and overall product development and organization.
• Those who have experience in defining overall development policies based on business plans as a member of management or development manager, or in managing the entire engineering organization.
• Have a certain level of experience in product development and development in the AI area.

Personal Attributes

• Enjoys going very deep into technical discussions; or enjoys presenting the technical and functional details of the product in conferences, seminars, etc (note: either is ok).
