Mid-level Software Engineer – Artificial Intelligence Full-time

Responsibilities

Join our Strategic Innovation Center in Herndon, VA and support exciting projects across Peraton in areas such as communications, space, cybersecurity, defense, health, and mobile. You’ll work in an Agile software development environment supporting requirements/story development, software architecture and design, software development, and unit/component testing.

The initial project assignment for this position will be supporting a generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) project where you will support the design, development, and implementation of leading-edge AI solutions. You will work closely with engineers, data scientists, and product managers to develop and deploy innovative AI applications to customers across intelligence, defense and civilian agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and deploy AI models using generative AI, deep learning, machine learning, and other relevant techniques
• Use of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and RAG architectures
• Provide inputs to technical designs, code development, and component test execution to ensure they align with the functional specification
• Develop applications encompassing both user experience and backend code
• Deploy solutions to the cloud or on-premises
• Prepare and pre-process data for training and testing AI models
• Stay up to date on the latest advancements in AI research and development
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals
• Explain AI solutions to technical and non-technical audiences

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, artificial intelligence, or a related field with 5+ years of experience working as a software engineer, including prior experience developing AI solutions
• Experience programming in Python, Java, or C++
• Experience with open source multi-modal LLMs, such as Llama3, Mistral, etc.
• Experience with cloud environment and deploy applications to AWS, Azure, Google
• Experience with vector DBs such as Weaviate, Neo4J, etc., or other key technologies, such as Cassandra, Elastic, etc.
• Experience with Kubernetes, including implementation and management experience with AWS/EKS/Kubernetes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team-player
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• US Citizenship Required

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior experience working in an Agile software development environment
• Prior experience working with DevSecOps processes and tools
• Prior experience providing technical leadership to a team and/or mentoring to junior personnel
• Ability to anticipate problems and take decisive action and an ability to find innovative ways to solve problems
• Active TS or higher clearance is a plus, but not a requirement for the role

Target Salary Range

$104,000 – $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
