THE ROLE

AMD is looking for a highly talented engineer to join our AMD Instinct Engineering team. Technical, hands-on lead responsible for AMD Instinct Product features/platform validation and enablement through BIOS, system firmware, and OS levels. This individual will be primarily responsible for interfacing with silicon, firmware, software, GPU driver and platform design groups to develop and execute validation test plan and will work closely with our customers who are developing AMD Instinct based systems. Validation staff engineer will work with validation team and our customers during critical issue escalations and help get issues resolved in time to meet product development or sustaining milestones.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Define and develop post-silicon Virtualization test plan and execute test cases.
• Include debugging AI and HPC systems with an emphasis on virtualization domain and platform level debug.
• Providing root cause analysis and guidance to internal and customer design teams to help close issues.
• Work with cross-functional teams to improve post-silicon validation test strategy, methodology, and process.
• Work with automation team on test framework for KVM/HYPER-V/VMWare hypervisor.
• Knowledge and use of standard debuggers and programmers.
• Further requirements include a strong understanding of BIOS, OS, and driver interactions at the system level as well as a proficient understanding of x86 CPU architecture, GPU architecture and functionality.
• Support project independently and handle all issues to co-work with INT/EXT team well.
• A self-starter required and able to deal with a high level of ambiguity.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Expert understanding and experience with Windows and Linux kernel (especially IO/PCI/MM/virtualization).
• Working knowledge of Server OSes (Linux, Windows) and Hypervisor KVM/HYPER-V/VMWARE.
• Understanding of modern x86 microprocessor architecture and AI/HPC platform architecture is highly desired.
• Experience with SoC, Microprocessor and Graphic cores architecture.
• Experience developing validation methodologies and test plan.
• Participated in silicon bring up and debug, support to internal engineering teams.
• Able to execute and drive success of programs with multiple projects on-the-go.
• Debug skills at both SoC and system level.
• Experience in scripting languages such as Python, Windows PowerShell, Linux shell script
• Must be a self-starting team player with excellent communication skills who can work with minimal guidance.
• Forward thinker that drives improvement to development process, code architecture and fosters a spirit of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
• Working knowledge of lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and protocol analyzers
• AI/HPC software stacks, ROCm, TensorFlow or Pytorch is a plus with regards to AI application
• Self-organizing and the ability multitask based on priorities.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Electronics / Computer Science related with 12 years of experience in SoC validation and debug.
