Senior/Principal Engineer – AI Based Video Compression and International Full-time

Huawei’s Munich Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.

Audiovisual Technology Lab in Huawei Munich Research Center is developing innovative technologies on media sensing, processing and coding, and computer graphics. You will contribute to these activities being inserted into an international and experienced team of researchers.

To support our research activities, we are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior/Principal Engineer who will drive to the research and development of AI based video compression. JPEG AI is first international E2E AI coding standard will be finalized shortly. The Senior/Principal Engineer has the chance to join strong international research team actively working on JPEG AI. Possibility to attend the international standardization meetings, present the developed technologies to the international community. Successful candidate for Principal Engineer position will supervise research work of 1-2 PhD students or interns.

Your mission

• Research on innovative algorithms in the field of video compression (not only AI based)
• Research on innovative algorithms in the field of image/video signal processing
• Participate in international standardization and promote Huawei’s technologies to standard
• Research on innovative algorithms in the field of artificial intelligent
• Implement the innovative algorithms into the reference software, conduct comprehensive test
• Generate papers, technical reports, patents

Your areas of expertise

• PhD in electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, mathematics or physics
• Deep interest in the topics related to video compression and artificial intelligent
• Proven record of scientific research achievement in video compression or/and artificial intelligent field
• International standardization experience, submitted contributions to VCEG/MPEG/JVET and got some of them adopted

• Submitted patents related to video or image coding
• Excellent knowledge of international video coding standards (at least HEVC and VVC)
• Working in a multi-national team and you like to collaborate with researchers to develop creative solutions
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Good understanding for visual quality metrics
• Understanding for basic principle of CNN structure and training
• Excellent software skills (C/C++, Python, Pytorch, Tensorflow, Matlab)
