Job Description

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

As our new Senior Frontend Engineer you will work closely with a cross functional team of Frontend, Backend and Machine Learning Engineers to bring the bleeding edge of AI technology to our core editing experience.

• Design, develop and deploy solutions to challenging Design AI problems – working closely with ML engineers, backend engineers, frontend engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver features and experiments to our users
• Gain deep experience and understanding of how Canva’s core editor works
• Primarily building web based features with Typescript, but may need to work with other languages and environments
• Running quantitative and qualitative experiments with the assistance of a data analyst
• Contributing to the team’s product roadmap

Qualifications

You’re probably a match if

• You are experienced in solving problems in highly complex and ambiguous domains
• Proven track record in delivering product engineering goals in the AI/ML space
• Our frontend stack consists of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, TypeScript, MobX, etc.. Experience in some of these would be valuable but is not required.
• Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including asynchronous programming, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others.
• Experience or strong interest in natural language processing. This team works with cutting edge LLM technology so a genuine desire or proven experience in this space is essential
• A user-centered approach to problem solving
• Strong creative problem solving with algorithms
• Able to apply both divergent and convergent thinking to open ended problems
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Since the field of AI is enjoying a rapid progression, there are many exciting opportunities for Content AI to help users best communicate (and consume) ideas. We’re accomplishing this through advanced prompt engineering and efficient software pipelines between our UI and LLM’s while being able to support millions of users.
