McKinsey’s Tech Ecosystem function is responsible for developing and delivering all technology solutions for the firm’s internal use. We are taking a cloud-first approach to transform our data platforms and analytical applications across the firm.

We are seeking an experienced cloud data expert to shape and accelerate the delivery of target state cloud-based platforms and the migration of existing data assets to the cloud. We are looking for a specialist data engineer who loves to build our data solutions on the cloud that enhances our capability to build great data-driven products, AI/ML capabilities and next-gen client and colleague experiences in a high-energy agile environment.

Your Impact

We are looking for an AI Engineer with expertise in migration of enterprise data platforms who is passionate about cloud- based data engineering using AWS services.

You’ll be a member of a global team working on a generative AI initiative, based in one of our European offices. Our McKinsey’s Tech Ecosystem function is responsible for developing and delivering all technology solutions for the firm’s internal use.

You will work in a team of data engineers to build target state platforms and migrate existing applications and products, and build next-gen data platforms, contributing to emerging technologies.

You will be responsible for working in the migration of enterprise data platforms onto the cloud to help accelerate the firm’s cloud-first transformation. As an expert cloud data engineer, you will develop innovative data ingestion solutions to integrate across on-premises and SaaS ecosystems.

You will work with a team of data engineers that works across the global hubs to build target state platforms and migrate existing applications and products. You will also be part of an effort to build next-gen data platforms on the cloud to enable our Enterprise colleagues with rapid data access and incubate emerging technologies.

Your qualifications and skills

• Expertise in developing and optimizing generative AI models and crafting effective prompts
• Proficiency in Transformer, Deep Neural Network (DNN), and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) architectures
• Experience with agent-based modeling and approaches in AI systems
• Strong background in deep algorithmic problem-solving and performance optimization
• Proficiency in both low-level (C++, Rust) and high-level (Python, Scala) programming languages
• Extensive experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP), including cloud architecture, containerization, and cloud-native data processing
• Knowledge of cloud spend management and financial operations (FinOps) to optimize cloud costs
• Skilled in developing and maintaining ETL and ELT pipelines, handling large-scale data (terabyte scale+), and deep RDBMS/SQL experience; SPARQL/SHACL knowledge is a bonus
• Understanding of ML algorithms’ impact on time, energy, and cost, and experience managing ML clusters using cloud-native solutions, SLURM, or Kubernetes
• Ability to select appropriate hardware based on performance and load requirements for machine learning tasks
