Quantum Application Calibration Research Scientist, Quantum AI Full-time

Minimum qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in theoretical quantum physics.
• Experience in Python.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with one or more types of qubits, including superconducting qubits, neutral atoms, trapped ions, NV centers, and quantum dots.
• Experience with NISQ applications, error mitigation.

Calibrating quantum devices for beyond-classical noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) applications is extremely hard due to high precision requirements, large numbers of error channels, and stringent calibration time requirements. In this role, you will prototype characterization methods to provide actionable information to improve hardware performance. You will also create benchmarking algorithms to ensure our hardware performs reliably for large-scale quantum circuits and develop error mitigation schemes.

The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI’s mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

• Establish methods for benchmarking and optimizing large-scale NISQ quantum circuits.
• Support experimentalists on calibrating quantum gates and control pulses.
• Identify the underlying culprits causing reduced performances in circuit environments.
• Develop error-mitigation schemes and simulation tools for near-term applications.
