Within the Advertising Sales organization, we are building a central AI/ML team and are seeking top science talent to build new, science-backed services to drive success for our customers. Our goal is to transform the way account teams operate by creating actionable insights and recommendations they can share with their advertising accounts, and ingesting Generative AI throughout their end-to-end workflows to improve their work efficiency.

As a part of our team, you will bring deep expertise in quantitative modeling (recommender systems, reinforcement learning, and/or generative artificial intelligence) to build and refine models that can be implemented in production. You will be a thought leader as we chart new courses with our ad sales support technologies, and you have the communication skills necessary to explain complex technical approaches to a variety of stakeholders, leaders and customers. We are seeking a true owner who can provide science leadership, establish a vision and charter for the team, foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, and manage a team of scientists and software engineers to drive long-term success. You can build a team, launch AI models in production, write vision documents and build scalable team mechanisms.

Define a long-term scientific vision for our advertising sales business, driven from our customers’ needs, translating that direction into specific plans for scientists, engineers and product teams. Key job responsibilities

– Drive end-to-end applied science projects that have a high degree of ambiguity, scale and complexity

– Provide technical / science leadership related to large language models, generative image, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) .

– Research new and innovative Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence approaches.

– Recruit high performing Applied Scientists to the team and provide mentorship.

– Establish team mechanisms, including team building, planning, and document reviews.

About the team

Sales AI is a central science and engineering organization within Amazon Advertising Sales that powers selling motions and account team workflows via state-of-the-art of AI/ML services. Sales AI is investing in a range of sales intelligence models, including the development of advertiser insights, recommendations and Generative AI-powered applications throughout account team workflows.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience

– Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval and Analytics

– PhD, or Master’s degree + 4 years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience

– 10+ years of building AI models for business applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application

– Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning and computer vision, that have been successfully delivered to customers

– Published research work in academic conferences or industry circles

– Effective verbal and written communication skills with non-technical and technical audiences

– Thinks strategically, but stays on top of tactical execution

– Balances business, product and technology well

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
