Engineering Manager AI [PERM] Full-time

Young AI company from Japan taking the market by storm! Japan team looking for experienced Engineering Manager.

Roles/Responsibilities

• You will play a pivotal role bridging management and operations, leading development based on business objectives. Additionally, you will contribute extensively to managing the engineering organization. Together with the CTO, you will lead the technical team, including engineers, to drive the continuous development of the company and its operations. You will be responsible for promoting our product development and commissioned research projects, as well as organizing the engineering team.
• Specific Job Responsibilities
• Oversee the overall product development of AI/NLP products and manage the development team members.
• Manage all aspects of commissioned development projects and PoC projects.
• Plan and develop new products and AI initiatives using our R&D achievements and cutting-edge AI technologies.
• Design and implement mechanisms to maximize output in the engineering organization.
• Manage the engineering team (technology selection, talent development, recruitment, etc.).
• Mission of this Position
• Define policies and lead the development team from a management perspective to promote the operation and advancement of the engineering organization in line with business plans.
• Design product architectures considering business growth and promote the repayment of technical debts.
• Manage project progress, resource management in development tasks, and accurate workload estimation.
• Contribute to improving the productivity and maximizing growth of the engineering organization over the next 3-5 years, thereby enhancing overall company performance.
• Continuously cultivate successors and next-generation leaders for the sustainable development of the company and its operations.

Required skills

• 10+ years of experience in senior management roles, preferably in tech or AI
• A proven track record of scaling operations in fast-growing startups
• Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making abilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• People management experience (4+ years)
• Fluent Japanese (written + spoken) and conversational English

Preferred skills

• Proven experience as a technical lead or project manager in web applications or AI domains.
• Led teams of at least 5 members as a Tech Lead or PM.
• Experience in project and team management using Agile methodologies.

• Experience as the lead author of peer-reviewed papers or presentations at international conferences.
• Experience in patent applications.
• Entrepreneurial experience.
