About this Team:

The AI Experimentation Platform (AIEP) team, a key component of the Data and AI Platform (DAP) technology organization within Visa, is at the forefront of harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive strategic growth and operational efficiency. The team is dedicated to developing an advanced platform that fosters technological innovation and delivers impactful solutions. As a Director – AI/ML, you will have the unique chance to make a direct and meaningful impact by delivering solutions that powers AI systems. You will design, enhance, and build solutions dealing with the next generation AI/ML and GenAI technology and be an agent of transformation. Essential Functions:

• Lead a group of engineers in the development of machine learning-powered platforms, applications, and solutions to address business challenges and enhance product performance.
• Build, mentor, and lead diverse teams of software engineers, data engineers, and machine learning experts to execute on the strategic vision.
• Foster continuous learning, innovation, and improvement, while empowering team members for decision-making and project ownership.
• Lead implementations of machine learning pipelines and workflows for data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, and evaluation.
• Strategically lead and manage the development of robust data engineering pipelines and machine learning-powered web applications to drive business performance and innovation.
• Collaborate with senior technical staff and Project Managers to identify, document, plan contingency, track and manage risks and issues until all are resolved.
• Strategically planning and managing the resources to maximize efficiency and productivity, including investment in new technologies and business needs.
• Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms.
• Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a detailed and timely manner.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience
• Strong technical knowledge and expertise in software engineering, machine learning, and data engineering to guide and support the team.
• Experience building and supporting scalable, reliable data solutions and AI/machine learning powered systems using modern big data and ML/AI technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• Comprehensive understanding of database design and management systems (both SQL and NoSQL), expertise in performance optimization, data security, data modelling etc. along with the ability to adapt new database technologies.
• Solid understanding of Big Data technologies, notably Hadoop for distributed data storage and Spark for large-scale data processing, enabling team to handle and analyze vast amounts of data efficiently.
• Hands-on experience partnering with data scientists and can speak knowledgeably about the major machine learning paradigms, algorithms, software tools, infrastructure and workflow needs.
• Having knowledge and experience in developing Single Page Applications using Angular and Java with frameworks like Spring is an advantage
• Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills and the ability to present complex ideas in a clear, concise way.
• Publications or presentations in recognized computing journals/conferences is a plus.
• Payment industry experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with the associated open-source ecosystem (e.g., mlflow, cortex, seldon, Kubeflow, tfx) is a plus.
