2025 Summer Intern, MS/PhD, Machine Learning Hardware Engineer Full-time

Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo’s fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. You will:

• Develop a novel co-simulation and verification methodology for ML accelerator pipelines
• Explore automated stimulus generation with constraint solvers, fuzz testing, formal techniques and AI-generated test cases
• Profile, understand and optimize simulator performance to speed up run times
• Gain deep knowledge of the microarchitecture and ISA of a state-of-the-art ML accelerator

You have:

• Enrolled in a Masters program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
• Excellent knowledge of computer architecture and microarchitecture
• Proficiency in digital system design using SystemVerilog or other languages
• Software development experience with proficiency in C++ for modeling and verification of digital systems

We prefer:

• Enrolled in a PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
• Experience with higher-level languages for digital design such as Chisel, HLS, Python-based HDLs
• Experience with RTL simulation using Verilator
• Experience with CPU performance profiling

The expected hourly rate for this full-time position is listed below. Interns are also eligible to participate in the Company’s generous benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.
